The Court of Justice in the Archives: Introduction

Printer-friendly version

Abstract: This Introduction outlines the rationale and genesis of the research project that forms the basis for this collection of Articles, putting it into the context of recent interesting historical and sociological turns in EU law and Court of Justice-focused scholarship. It then identifies and offers initial reflections on a selection of horizontal themes which emerge from the study of individual case dossiers, including insights into legal argumentation, actors, institutions and procedures, as well as on the dossiers as an object of study, with the aim of reflecting on the ways in which use of the Court’s archives may enrich EU law scholarship, as well as on its limits and methodological challenges.

Keywords: Court of Justice – Historical Archives of the European Union – dossiers de procédure originaux – case analysis value – multidisciplinary perspectives – research project.
